1.
Choose a top quality gloss or semi-gloss paint. (Using semi-gloss paint highlights the wood
grain of the door.)
2.
Make sure door is clean and dry. Moisten a lint-free cloth with denatured alcohol and wipe door
thoroughly to remove all dust.

3.
Paint door edges and touch-prime any minor surface scratches.
4.
When touch-up is fully dry, apply two coats of good quality paint. Follow paint manufacturer's
recommendations.
5.
PATECO-Masonite Doors offer a wide range of decorative options to fit any decor. You may
want to try such custom-decorating techniques as sponging, antiquing, stenciling or pickling.

1.
Gather your materials. You will need:
Stain *
  3"-4" Nylon Bristle Brush
  1" Nylon Bristle Brush
  100% Cotton, Lint-Free Wiping Cloth
  Denatured Alcohol
2.
Make sure door is clean and dry. Moisten cloth with alcohol and wipe entire door surface to remove dust.
3.
Liquid stains may be applied using either the 3"-4" brush or cotton wiping cloth. For gel stains se a cotton wiping cloth.
4.
Gel stains can be applied in 2 ways. Dab gel over surface and wipe evenly over entire door or follow the liquid application method described next.
5.
Four liquid stains or for gels, apply and wipe the stained over one area at a time. Start with the door panels, then cover the horizontal rails, then the vertical stiles.
6.
Remove any excess stain from the corners of the panel areas by feathering with a dry 1" brush. Stain outer door edges.
7.
When wiping stiles and rails, use long strokes to prevent stain from pooling where the horizontal rails and vertical stiles meet.
8.
With some stains, a second coat will yield a deeper color. Make sure the first coat is completely dry before applying a second coat. Consult a manufacturer's directions for drying times.
9.
Allow door to dry completely for 24 hours, then apply a clear protective coat. For best results, follow top coat recommendations provided by stain manufacturer.

NOTE: Because the results of staining are dependent on type of stain, application technique, individual preference, experience and humidity conditions, we advise you to practice on the inside of a closet door.
